On this page, you can read about the four writing projects of mine that went on to become published works. The first two are plays, “Fair Maid of the West”, and “The Sign of the Four”. The last two are novels, “Confessions of a Transylvanian” and “Invading Nirvana.”

In 1994, I completed a stage adaptation of Thomas Heywood’s 17th century swashbuckling epic “The Fair Maid of the West,” which I wrote and directed for the CT20 Ensemble theatre company. The show ran from November of ’94 to February of ’95 and went on receive a total of eight Joseph Jefferson nominations, including for Best Production and Best Director. Soon afterwards, Dramatic Publishing offered me a chance to publish the play, which they did in late 1995, and the show is now performed at theaters and colleges across the country, including the 2017 revival – which I directed – at the Oak Park Festival Theatre.

In 2003, I collaborated with my partners in Shanghai Low Theatricals (of which I was a founding and now former member) to create an adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic Sherlock Holmes mystery “The Sign of the Four.” It was picked up and produced by the Apple Tree Theater and ran to great critical acclaim, again resulting in an offer from Dramatic Publishing to add it to their catalog.

In 2012, I co-wrote the one-and-only, down-and-dirty memoir of life in a Rocky Horror Picture Show shadowcast with my longtime friend and RHPS colleague Ron Fox. It was picked up and published by Berwick Court Publishing in June of 2012 under the title “Confessions of a Transylvanian” and went on to sell thousands of copies. The book enjoys a small, cult following to this day.

In 2017, Fort Raphael Publishing Company put out my novel “Invading Nirvana: a Chicagoan in the City of Angels,” the true story of my journey to Hollywood to explore the strange and surprising world of film and television acting.  It has been described by Stage and Cinema as a “must read” for anyone thinking of pursuing a show business career in California.
